The Orfeón Donostiarra celebrates 125 years of passion for music and professional dedication despite its amateur spirit. The result is an incomparable track record, a repertoire of more than one hundred symphonic-choral pieces and extraordinary international prestige.
The board of director is currently launching the institution’s ambitious artistic projects, for the present and for the future.
José Antonio Sainz Alfaro became the director of the Orfeón Donostiarra in 1987. During this stage, he renewed the Orfeón with young voices, maintaining the high musical level that preceding directors had achieved.
The Orfeón Donostiarra, one of Europe’s most important amateur choirs, is comprised of 210 voices. Sopranos, contraltos, tenors and bassos, all of them well-known names.
Few organisations understand better than a choir the importance of being surrounded by the best. That is why we are proud of the prestigious orchestras, directors and soloists that have shared the stage with us.
Once-in-a-lifetime concerts, extraordinary performances, songs that you want to listen to time and again: music gives us memorable moments that deserve to be preserved.
The repertoire is the trail left by a journey, the footprints marking the path we leave behind. After 120 years of history, the Orfeón Donostiarra has many things to tell and sing.
Awards and prizes are not just a pleasant recognition of our work. They are the proof that we are doing things right. And they provide motivation to continue.
